Weekend Work Party + Phase 1 Planting

This past weekend we had some friends over to help us on a HUGE yard project: pulling out our front hedge. Here is the 'before' picture with my mom & Thor working on cutting the hedge.
Here's the stack of hedge on the sidewalk after we ripped it out.

The bank 'after.' We took over 3000 lbs. of hedge to the compost facility on Saturday!

Our friend, Tom, pulling old railway ties out of our backyard. These suckers are heavy!

Here's the front bank after. On the left side of this picture you can see the Coral Bark Maple that we put in the other day.

Here's the West side of our front bank -- at the top is a Redwood Dogwood that we moved from the East side of our bank (it was crowding out a Japanese Maple). Below that is a new little 'Red Dragon' Japanese Maple.

A close up of the coral bark maple.

Here's a shot of our original Japanese Maple that we took the dogwood and spirea away from. It has much more space to spread out now -- and we moved the sedge from a container we had in the back. A LOT of work!
