Thor's Birthday Weekend: The Deschutes and Post Canyon

Last weekend we headed out to the Deschutes for Thor's birthday. I'm cranky with Blogger right now because I wrote this post up mid-week - and then it deleted it! So this will be abbreviated narrative the second time around.

Normally it is hot (90+) in the Deschutes near Maupin this time of year, but not last weekend. It was on the chilly side (60), rainy, and windy. We stayed only one night instead of the two we had planned, and came back to Portland to ride bikes with William and Adele on Sunday. Overall a great weekend despite the weather!

Here are some pics:

The view on the way out - clouding up.

Aaaand - the sad weather once we got into camp.

We got in early enough on Friday to do a little fishing. We had a lot of success!

Dusk - right before we ran out of light.

A Saturday fish.

Some pictures from Sunday of Adele and I clearing table tops for the first time. Very fun!

Spring is Here....almost.

last weekend we went to shuttle up at Cold Creek. Thrillium was in great shape, but Cold Creek itself still had a fair bit of snow up top. in a few weeks it should be perfect!

the weather was perfect though and we had great views!

Mother's Day Shred-Fest in Bend

For Mother's Day weekend we rolled down to Bend to join William, Adele, Sarah and Emily for 2-days of mountain biking, camping and good eating!

We rode mtn bikes both days - Mom killed it and impressed everyone with how quick she was! Sataurday night we met friends Beth, Nate and baby Hu. for dinner at Jackson's Corner in the glorious warm weather.  And then Sunday morning Thor whipped up a batch of his delicious lemon ricotta pancakes with strawberries for a camp breakfast.

The Mother herself! Eating a scrumptious pancake!

Slow Saturday: The Tingeys Take it Down a Notch

We had the best, low-key Saturday this weekend. I think we stayed in bed reading until 10, whipped up some breakfast, and then look a leisurely stroll to the farmers market.

We spent the afternoon planting our raised beds, and then hit the shower early so we could get all dresses up to head to the P:ear spring fundraiser - it was a lovely evening with friends and great food!

Dad Visits Portland in time for the worst weather!

Two weekends ago dad came to Portland and we had a great time despite the glum, overcast weather.

Friday night delicious dinner at Yakuza and Random Order pie!

Saturday fishing topped off with a tasty dinner at home and early night tucked in bed.

Sunday a scrumptious breakfast at Broder, lawn mower shopping, more fishing - and then a last dinner with William and Adele at Tabor Tavern.

Come back and visit any time Dad!

Hawaii Part II: Honolulu with Sheri & Daphne

After hanging with Anna for a few days I bounced islands to hook up with Thor, Sheri and Daphne. We hung out in Honolulu-and had a really nice time despite the chilliest weather Sheri could ever remember in her 30+ years of visiting HI! We paddle boarded, snorkeled (I had to invest in a thermal top so I didn't die in the frigid waters), and ate amazing food while we were there.

The final couple of days we went up to the north shore and caught a bit more sun in the afternoons. very nice! Daphne and I practiced our 'tourist' poses for pictures.

Hawaii Part 1: Maui with Anna!!

In mid-March I travelled to Maui to visit Anna for a few days before hooking up with Thor, Sheri and Daphne in Honolulu. As an added bonus Dad and Brenda were on Maui for a conference - so I squeezed a lot of family visiting into one trip!

I got to see Anna's sweet house up in Makawao, eat lots of tasty dinners, and go out on the boat with Anna every day! it was lovely, and a real treat to get to hang out with Anna 1:1.

One of the evenings Anna, Dad, Brenda and I went to see Ulalena (I probably butchered this spelling) in Lahaina, and I highly recommend it. it is an hour long performance detailing the history of Hawaii, and it is beautifully done.
Afterwards Anna tried to take me to one of her favorite shops - Lush - but I had such a terrible stomach ache that I could hardly stand up straight! I was such a sight doubled over on the main drag in lahaina that I'm pretty sure people thought I was drunk. I realize this isn't a great story - but I expect Anna will get a good chuckle remembering the comments we got from a couple guys passing by.

All-in-all it was a great three days - and it went by way too quickly. Good motivation to find another time to go and visit!
